چکیده

Methods A large gel phantom was used to assess phase offset in through-plane phase contrast images in x (left to right), y (anterior to posterior) and z directions at the isocenter and in positions ±40 mm and ±80 mm away from the isocenter. Repeated measures were averaged and fit to linear regressions. Phase correction was validated in human study for the assessment of aorta and pulmonary artery (PA) flow which was followed immediately by a phantom scan using the same settings. The aorta and PA flow corrected by the regression calculated background phase was compared to that corrected by the measured background phase in the phantom study.

Image based background magnetic field correction for aortic and pulmonary artery flow measurement using phase contrast

Methods Twelve volunteers underwent breath-hold through-plane phase contrast (PC) imaging of cross sectional view of the ascending aorta and PA. PC imaging was immediately repeated on a static fluid-filled phantom. Phase images were analyzed using QFlow (Medis, Leiden, Netherlands.). Phase shift was also analyzed in static background and in surrounding tissues including chest wall fat and muscl...

Baseline correction of phase contrast images improves quantification of blood flow in the great vessels.

PURPOSE Phase-contrast Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMR) generally requires the analysis of stationary tissue adjacent to a blood vessel to serve as a baseline reference for zero velocity. However, for the heart and great vessels, there is often no stationary tissue immediately adjacent to the vessel. Consequently, uncorrected velocity offsets may introduce substantial errors in f...

Flow measurement by magnetic resonance: a unique asset worth optimising.

Users and manufacturers of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) systems have, potentially, an unrivalled asset. Phase contrast mapping of velocities through planes transecting the great arteries should provide the most accurate measurements available of cardiac output, shunt flow, aortic or pulmonary regurgitation and, indirectly, of mitral regurgitation. But the reality is that phase contra...

Best precision in measuring Qp/Qs is achieved with quadratic, not linear, stationary tissue background correction in phase contrast velocity encoded CMR

Background Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) flow quantification for determining the ratio of flow between the pulmonary artery and aorta (Qp/Qs) is used to quantify cardiac shunts. Post-processing methods, including linear or quadratic stationary tissue background correction have been proposed to improve accuracy and precision in flow quantification. However, it is not known which method...

Visualization of vascular hemodynamics in a case of a large patent ductus arteriosus using flow sensitive 3D CMR at 3T.

Comprehensive flow velocity acquisition based on time-resolved three-dimensional phase-contrast CMR with three-directional velocity encoding was employed to assess arterial hemodynamics in a patient with a large patent ductus arteriosus with Eisenmenger's physiology. Computer-aided visualization of blood flow characteristics provided detailed information about temporal and spatial distribution ...
